Atar la línea al anzuelo: los nudos

ImprimirE-mail

"The next thing we're going To learn is uh some knots for attaching our line to our fly or lure or hook, or whatever we're using to catch these fish with. The most important thing about these uh line to hook connections that, is that you practice them. People always say, "What's the best knot to use"? And I usually tell them the best knot to use is the one you know how to tie. So make sure you practice your knots. Another thing to be um, uh pay attention to is, is make sure you lubricate the material, especially if your using mono filament, lubricate it before you tie the knot, you know before you clinch the knot down. Uh and that would be the case with all knots where you're tying uh mono filament to mono filament or you know mono filament to itself, which is basically what you're doing when you're tying to the hook. You want to lubricate that knot whether you spit on it, you know stick it in your mouth or you dunk it in the water or if you have a spray bottle to wet your knots before you tighten them up. Just the friction um from pulling the monofilament tight against itself builds up enough heat to weaken that material by as much as fifty percent. So that could be pretty considerable if you're using some light materials. So make sure you always wet those knots before you tighten them up."

Nudo Clinch

"First one and probably the easiest to attach your line to your hook is The Clinch Knot. And, a lot of these knots will go by different names, so you might have heard it called something else, but this basically, The Clinch Knot is the easiest one. Um, it's also a very strong one and it's one that uses up very little of your leader material. The first thing you do obviously is stick it through the eye of the hook. Pull out enough to um, usually, usually three or four inches is plenty. And then you're going to pinch it here between your fingers. And then wrap the tag end around the long side. Uh, depending on the thickness of your material, anywhere from four or five times to maybe even ten times. The thinner the material is the more wraps you want to make. So we'll just give it say five wraps here, one, two, three, four, five wraps. And then we take the tag end and we just poke it back through that little space it made when we first started wrapping. And what you can do, the nice thing about The Clinch Knot is you can just grab this here and just pull it tight. And you'll use very, very little of your leader material. And that's it. And once again, as I said in the intro, before you tighten that up, you'll want to make sure, you know you get it wet. So, before I tighten it I usually stick it in my mouth. Although some places, you might not want to do that. Um, but uh that helps it, helps lubricate it. Let's it tighten up without weakening your material. So that's The Clinch Knot. We'll clip that off and do that again for you real quick here. Probably the easiest one to tie and pretty strong. Okay go through, one, two, three, four, five. Remember you can do more or you can do less. Depending on the thickness of material. Back through the hole. And, pull it tight, after we wet it of course. That's your Clinch Knot."

Nudo Clinch mejorado

"Okay the next one we'll do is The Improved Clinch Knot. It's uh, basically we tie a Clinch Knot and we do one little trick to it that makes it a little bit stronger. Hence the name The Improved Clinch Knot. Poke it through the eye of the hook. Give yourself a little tag, maybe three, four inches. Grab it between your fingers here. Wrap it around the standing end, one, two, three, four, five times. You can do more or you can do less. Okay and then, we're going to do it just like we did the Clinch Knot. We're going to stick it back through that space there, but we're going to do one more step. We're going to take the tag end and run it through this loop here that we made when we brought that tag end back, So we're going to go through there. And that is what makes it the Improved Clinch Knot. We pull it tight after we lubricate it of course. And this does make it a little bit stronger. And if you're, if it's really critical that you get every ounce of strength out of that line, you might want to go ahead and do the Improved Clinch Knot. But what you'll notice is you will waste more of your leader material. I've got a lot longer tag there to cut off. You can't really avoid that if you do the Improved Clinch Knot. So let's do that again, one more time. Improved Clinch Knot. Go through the eye of the hook. Pull out three or four inches. Wrap it, one, two, three, four, five wraps. Back through the first loop. And then we go back through the second loop again. Wet it. And we tighten it up. And that's your Improved Clinch Knot."

Lazo Duncan

"The next knot we're going to do is The Duncan's Loop. It's a nice one, if you want to have a loop where your line is connected to your fly or your lure. Maybe it gives a little bit more natural movement through the water. So what we'll do is we'll go through the eye of the hook. Give yourself a little bit more tag this time. And what we're going to do is come forward here and we're going to take this tag and make a complete circle, so another loop. So a loop here, as well as that loop going through the eye of the hook. And then we're going to take the tag and we're going to wrap it around the long end, through the loop. So, like so. And we're going to give it maybe five or six here, one, two, three, four, five. And so it will look like that. And then we pull the tag end tight. Okay, so now we've got our loop here. And what you can do, is you can slide that loop down, fairly close to the eye of the hook, and then if you pull this tag end nice and tight, it will sort of lock that loop. So now you've got a nice little loop connection. Maybe if you wanted to tie on your fly or your lure with a little bit heavier line, then this will give it a little bit more natural action by having that loop there. So that's The Duncan's Loop."

Nudo Uni

"Okay, another knot that we can use, and this is really similar, basically we are going to tie the same knot that we would with the Duncan's Loop, but we are going to pull it all the way down. Some people call it a Uni-Knot, some people just call it a Duncan's Loop, that you, that is not looped, that you close up. So pull it through, give yourself quite a bit of tag and the, we are going to make a complete loop here with our tag in, run that through five times; one, two, three, four, five times and then pull it, tighten it up. So up until this point we are basically, we are tying a Duncan's Loop but instead of leaving that loop open, we are going to pull it all the way down and tighten it against the hook eye. So now, we've got the Uni Knot, real similar to the Duncan's Loop, we're just going to pull it all the way down, like so."

Nudo Palomar

"The next knot that we are going to do is a Palomar Knot. And this is a nice one because we end up with two strands of our leader material in the hook eye and some people think that, that makes it a lot stronger knot because you've got twice the material going through the eye of the hook and it increases the breaking strength a little bit. So to start it off, we loop our material back over itself and then we take the loop and poke it through the eye of the hook, like so. So we've got two lengths of leader material going through the eye of the hook. Then, real simple, just take that and tie an overhand knot in it, like so. Okay, you've got an overhand knot. Then basically take that and put the hook through that overhand knot. Pull that whole thing tight, and you've got a Palomar. A that's a really strong knot because I've got my leader material going through the eye of the hook two times so it is going to be a little bit harder to break that one, than if it just went through once. It's a really easy knot to tie, although you do use a lot of the leader material when you tie that knot just because you have to make that double pass through the eye of the hook. Clip it off, nice and close and there we go."

Doble Clinch

"The next one is one that I call the double clinch knot. It's basically a clinch, but just like that last one that we tied, you go through the eye of the hook twice, so go through the eye of the hook and then go back through one more time. And that basically just gives you another layer of the material going through the eye of the hook. So I pinch my loop that I have here now and then just finish it off like a regular clinch knot. Go around the line, one, two, three, four, five times and then take it back and make sure that you go through both of those loops there before you tighten it up. And it takes a little bit more coercing sometimes to get it tightened up because you've got it through there twice, but now once again you've got two layers of material going through the eye of the hook, makes it a little bit stronger."
